American Dream - Jakarta

Lyric:- 'You bring new meaning to the word delicious' - Lee, Newman et Al...

Track Choice:- This is from one of my favourite films, American Beauty and listening to it whilst bashing out yet another ten was a fantastic running experience. I just simply love this song...

I say 'running experience' as it was more like a 'swimming experience' in the torrential tropical rain the Seychelles had on offer today.

I didn't mind as I'd been looking forward to getting back out on the road all day. It's the best form of tourism if you ask me...

Anyway, it was the last run on Mahe and tomorrow it's of to La Digue on a tiny plane and ferry to an island where laps might be needed to get one's mileage into double figures.

Let's hope it's as delicious as Mahe :-)

More tomorrow from 'Roryworld'...

It's a strange old place!

Do anything you want to do - Thin Lizzy

Lyric:- They'll insinuate, intimidate and complicate you - Lynott

Track choice:- I listened hard to these lyrics on my coastal 10 miler here on The Seychelles today, I had to as I was at max heart rate in places and totally drenched in a sea of my own sweat.

Thank heavens for the twin lead guitars of Gary Moore and Scott Gorham to push me along as most of the route today was brutal in the near 100% humidity.

The song and my running today underlines to me that one needs adventure, a dream, a desire, a yearning to do something that isn't just boringly ordinary. Life's for living and being here in paradise without my usual 50mb connection, I've gone into 'Pensivemode'...oh yes a dangerous Coleman State of Mind when there is just a little too much time to let my brain dream up the next big thing.

Do you have exciting plans for your future? Or are you being intimidated or complicated as Lynott puts it. There are too many folk IMO who just don't get IT. I got it today on my dream 10 miler today.

I was both mentally and physically challenged, tested and slow cooked at 80+ degrees for 100 minutes but do you know what...it felt bloody awesome.

I might just do it all again tomorrow if I can get rehydrated enough in time.

Are you doing what you want to do or playing someone else's tune?

Please let me know ;-)

Unquiet Slumbers for the Sleepers - Genesis

Track Choice:- This and the next track on their 1977 album 'Wind and Wuthering', 'In that quiet earth' are the last words in the Bronte Classic which seemed quite apt today as I ran in monsoon conditions on the wettest ever day I've ever experienced.

Then again it's warm rain and my ten miler was the highlight of the day. Even in the rain, I found a fantastic beach that took my breath away...this is an amazing place.

More amazing was the post run swim on a totally deserted beach in a warm sea in the rain. Not many folk did that here today.

I'm so glad I did...more tomorrow if my kit has dried out a snidge...

Sweet Talkin' Woman - ELO

Lyric:- 'You got me runnin' run run' - Lynne

Track Choice:- Everyone had ELO's Out of the Blue Album back in 1978 and this was a catchy old number from the Brummie Rockers. I saw on the news the band were out of the old folks home today playing in Hyde Park. Now that sounds like a concert not to miss!

Sadly I had to as I'm in The Seychelles now having a monster break enjoying the late summer sunshine and awesome beaches of this remarkable 'Paradise Island'.

The thirty degree heat and the 88% humidity made this evenings opener for five miles turn into a very sweaty affair cooled down only by a swim in the wonderfully clear waters of the Indian Ocean.

I'm going to crack out a few more miles tomorrow and I might play a bit of The Best of ELO as I run along. I will need my eyes and ears though to avoid wayward drivers as my limited investigations on tonight's run found a few erratic locals behind the wheel.

I'm not too worried as I can now cater for most eventualities now my suitcase has caught up with me from it's extra night's stay in a Dubai. I don't know why I was worried as I always overpack and I reckon the t-shirt and shorts I was wearing had at least a week of heavy duty exercise in them...

Anyway it's the middle of the night here now (10pm!!!) and I need a lot more sleep before I go to sleep on the beach tomorrow...

It's a tough old world...Especially if you are A Wild West Hero...

The The - Good Morning Beautiful

Lyric:- Ask yourself, whose voice is it that whispers unto you? - Johnson

Song Choice:- This is The The at their scariest and blackest best in my opinion and the very first time I heard it, I loved it. It was back in my very dark days of 1991 and the little voice talking to me then wasn't giving me the best of life instructions I can tell you. I felt then and still do that the lyrics highlight life's negativity and ones path to righteousness...see what you think...by listening here.

It's far too easy to give into negative thoughts and people if it comes to that and become downtrodden and boring. The thing is we try and do things for the right reason sometimes and can end up becoming a crowd-pleaser. I found out today that one of my clients has the big C and he partner seems more worried that there will be a break in housekeeping duties during her illness instead of being caring, supportive and possibly loving at this particular worrying point in life.

Talk about someone needing a good box up the bracket!

It does make me wonder though if we should sometimes shout more than whisper and maybe shout louder if we're not being heard. At 52 I'm getting better at letting my feelings be known and letting my voice do the talking. It's very refreshing.

Is it time you shouted 'From the tops of your city roofs?'

More tomorrow...

The Red Shoes - Kate Bush

Lyric:- 'And this curve, is your smile, and this cross, is your heart, and this line, is your path - Bush

Track Choice:- This track has really gold hold of my running heart right now and Kate's wonderful lyrics and clever music really drove me through the last minutes of my endless hour on the treadmill tonight.

This song is about a girl that puts on an enchanted pair of shoes and can't stop dancing until the spell is broken. Yes, I know it's a bit whacky but we are talking Kate Bush here...

I heard the song while drowning in a sea of my own sweat and tears. It made me wonder how I would cope with a pair of training shoes that just went on running when my legs wanted to stop. It's a weird concept and one that I find quite scary as I'm very claustrophobic but I reckon it could come in handy on the MdS!

I just crave danger and it's a bit like a box that says 'Don't Open' on it...I'm far too inquisitive not to look I'm afraid and I think you have to have a bit of faith and jump in with both feet sometimes...if you're a regular reader or really know me...you'd know that already about me already.

Take a listen yourself and if you already have Red Shoes, Blue Shoes or even Pink High Heels...put 'em on and your dream will come true!

More tomorrow...Now where are my heels?

Ordinary World - Duran Duran

Lyric:- 'And as I try to make my way to the ordinary world' - Le Bon, Rhodes, Taylor, Robbins & Cuccurullo

Song Choice:- I've always had a soft spot for these 'Brummie Boys' and it's amazing to think they crafted such a wonderful song as this. It really has it all listen for yourself...1993 it seems like only yesterday.

Mines been more of an 'Extraordinary World' since 1993 and this song always makes me think of those who feel safe and secure doing the same things, year in year out. I wish I was more like that but in 'Roryworld' there's always a mountain to climb or a fresh challenge on the horizon to keep me focussed and firing on all cylinders. No two days are ever the same!

Everyday I meet people who are looking for an 'Extraordinary World' and just need a push to take the plunge and dive into a whole new ocean. As a coach, it's wonderful to be part of that persons transformation watching them grow in confidence and helping them become the person they've always wanted to be.

'Roryworld' isn't so bad you know... Do you live on your own planet or stuck on Planet Earth? (see what I did there with the Duran Duran ref.)

Anyway more tomorrow...I'm off to the gym!
