School - Supertramp

Lyric:- 'Don't let it get too dark'...

Song Choice:- I listened to this brilliant long forgotten Supertramp triumph of a track on my eleven mile run along the Coast of Praslin this afternoon.

It was a coincidence of a song as it's one of my old school friends 53rd birthday today which means I've known him for over forty years - bugger me!

Recently our old Headmaster Mr Pratt died and on a visit to my old school last year all of my old teachers has left or died and their villainous 'Pink Floyd Teacher like ways' had gone with them. I was told it was the end of an era.

Headteachers are a lot nicer type nowadays I'm told and young people are treated much more respect than we were.

We didn't turn out too badly though and if I had my time again I'd try a whole lot harder - easy with a bucket of hindsight but I reckon I could get quite a few A*s if I had another go...not so sure about Latin but I'd give the others a good go.

Then again if I had been a real swot, I wouldn't have been running in The Seychelles today so it can't be all that bad...

Forever Autumn - Justin Hayward

Lyric:- Through autumn's golden gown - Wayne

Song Choice - Probably the best concept album ever? (well it's debatable I suppose) but this song always come to mind when I see Autumn's arrival and Hayward's voice is both beautiful and haunting...

The Autumnal Equinox marks the transition from Summer towards the cold and dark days of a British Winter for me. A million miles away from where I am today - don't get me wrong as it's Autumn here and the leaves are much bigger and redder than back home and it's transition time here too...

I've decided to be really positive about heading back into the cold days of the UK and think about the things I love about the winter months. Firstly running without losing half of ones body weight in sweat will be most welcome and is there a better feeling of sitting by a big log fire toasting your feet after a long walk out on a very cold and frosty day? The Plough and Harrow Pub at Monknash has just the job!

It's not all over yet and luckily there will be four weeks before the clocks go back and it's back to hours of nipple grating power hours of getting the interval miles in the tank in the gym for next years racing.

Until then I'm going to enjoy kicking my way through the Autumn leaves both out here and back home. I'm back out on the road here tomorrow and looking forward to seeing more of paradise before the long journey back to Caerdydd...

Will I be needing my fleece on Monday? ;-)

Steam - Peter Gabriel

Lyric:- Get a life with the dreamers dream - Gabriel

Song Choice:- Superhero PG at his mad genius best...

Three, Two, One and back in the Room. Yep I can safely say that La Digue is part of a parallel universe in another time and space dimension and although only fifteen minutes from Praslin by ferry a million light years from normality. If you are looking to 'find' yourself there's no better place.

Finding my way around Praslin was a whole lot busier than La Digue. Less bikes but more buses and motorcycles (about 2 of each in reality) as I ran during 'rush hour' today. (The word Rush is not in the dictionary in the Seychelles btw).

My tem miles, five out and back, were three horizontal, two vertical repeated. Yes, they have the biggest mother hills you have EVER encountered along the coast towards Zimbabwe. Nope not another time warp, an actual place of the same name on a 50% gradient hill repeat you couldn't possibly do repeats on as it's just too steep.

I did find the best house do far of this holiday and if the lottery comes my way - then I know where to buy. An extraordinary mountain topped mansion overlooking the coast and the most perfect beach you could imagine.

It's a Bacardi Ad, Rockband Video & Holiday Brochure Special all rolled into one.

Today's run has also inspired me to try and have a crack at bettering my 50+ marathon PB of 3:37 at last years Abingdon. I'm not sure if there's enough of 2014 left to speed me up in time but January is a possibility.

It will be interesting to see how much this couple of weeks hard running in paradise will make to my performance back home.

If you're in the same boat maybe we can help each other smash a few time barriers - let me know your thoughts and I'll ponder on it for a while on the beach tomorrow :-)

More then...

Afternoon Delight - Starland Vocal Band

Lyric:- My motto's always been, when it's right it's right...

Song Choice:- Well it's officially 1976 in The Seychelles as I heard this ditty in one in one of its supermarkets today - The original version I have to tell you from a long lost summer many, many years ago when I was just fourteen. Ah that long hot summer...

Anyway I had to choose carefully to pick out a line in the song that wasn't too 70s Soft Porn Risque...How did all that rubbing, sparking and sky rockets in flight get past old Mary Whitehouse back then? It's very provocative!

If you've got this on your MP3 player, presumably you are using it at the end of races to get you to the finish and onto a cold shower very soon afterwards. This song could be the next natural performance enhancer!

I'm not sure though as I heard it, headed for the beach and promptly fell asleep for a couple of hours in the Seychelles Warm Sunshine. But that's men all over I suppose.

I'll keep the Afternoon Delight for when I'm back in the UK...it can be my new secret weapon and use it wisely.

More tomorrow...I think the sun is getting to me...

The light pours out of me - Magazine

'Time flies, Time Crawls' - Devoto

I think there's a Time And Relative Dimension In Seychelles - we'll call it the TARDIS effect and unlike the blue call box prop in my home town of Cardiff this one is totally real.

Strange stuff happens here, the clocks go backwards or don't even move at all and then it's suddenly sundown on yet another day in paradise.

Sure climbing the highest peak on La Digue takes time to conquer its 333m summit but all morning? Well in the TARDIS it does.

Just buying a few items in the local shop takes hours and everyone you see here moves in slow motion.

As for me lighting up the world out here, it's already fully illuminated and more than the one 60 watt bulb it already has would ruin the place. Even my iPhone is a bit bright.

Tomorrow, well that's another day and I won't be wasting vital energy thinking about it right now in case I upset the calmness out here...

Also time is a very precious commodity...not only here but everywhere and it's far too easy to wish your life away.

Maybe you need a TARDIS too! Where and what would you do?

Wish you were here - The Pink Floyd

Lyrics:- Running over the same old ground ' - Waters & Gilmour

Track Choice:- The title track from Floyd's 1975 album has LONG been one of my favourite pieces of classic progressive rock. Hearing this today whilst running on 'Castaway Beach' seemed the perfect holiday message to loved ones back home...as it's a shame you're not here to witness the outstanding beauty of this paradise island.

Then again, I was thinking more Danny Boyle and his 127 hours where I went on to run and climb over massive granite boulders through the rain forest styled coastal path, if that pictures it for you. One slip and I'd have been jam...it was very exciting and totally baking hot too.

I'm getting used to the heat though and it will be interesting to see the effect of training in 85 degrees Fahrenheit and 85 percent humidity for a couple of weeks. I'm loving my running right now SO much.

Today's been all about feeling and seeing good positive stuff and after as after you could be a 'lost soul swimming in a fish bowl' and that just wouldn't do would it Clare?

More tomorrow from Coleman-World. :-)

Hey You - The Pink Floyd

Lyric :- Out there on the a Road - Waters

Track Choice:- I played most of the album during today's run on the island of La Digue which is about 25 miles (scary flight plus scary ferry crossing ) from the main island of Mahe in the Seychelles.

I'm now officially the fastest thing ever to move on the island where everything and everyone is in s l o w m o t i o n...even the water in the taps comes out slower than normal over here! We are talking S L O W but then again why hurry as there is nothing to hurry for.

It's paradise for sure and the island is so small there are only a few taxis and trucks on the road which can't be bad but it makes up for it with thousands push-bikes instead to liven up any run. They are simply everywhere and there's no cycling proficiency test here...

Anyway, I'm going to head for the hills tomorrow where the bikes can't go and get in some safer mileage without Team Sky in tow.
